Are you tired?  Are you working hard? Feel like you are banging your head against a wall?  Read on…hope is here!

“I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.”

I was in school when I first read Philippines 3:14.  My focus was getting the highest grade, being well rounded, joining everything I could and “building” my resume. I thought my value came through what I did or what achievements I made. WRONG!

What changed?

I learned I needed to put my Rest in Him so I could Press On.

Truly, it took a while to figure out performance did not create value.  Learning to rest in God and move from that place changed my life in ways I am still discovering.  But, WOW I love the excessive joy in this way of living!

Here’s a short outline of my journey:

  • First, I had to realize performance, striving, etc. just didn’t work.  It made me tired and I lost my joy.
  • Second, I had to realize my value is in who I am, not what I do or who is happy with me.
  • Third, I had to lean that resting in God is not about a great vacation property.  It’s not about removing myself from life.  It was about engaging in life in a totally different way.

Next? I had to train in what it was to rest. My training in The Warrior Commission taught me how to abide, or rest, in the heart of my God. I learned how to stay in that place of connection and refreshing. It wasn’t rocket science, but sometimes learning how to apply scripture takes some practice and encouragement from my Warrior Commission Tribe.

Then, I had to learn…yes, huge revelation…that Pressing On toward the heavenly prize was about Pressing or leaning on Him! Now that will preach!  This meant the prize was not what I achieved.

The prize was knowing Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit

and passionately pursuing Him with all I am.

Weirdly enough, as I learned to align with Him and His peace and rest, I actually saw my capacity to “do” increase. But, I wasn’t tired and worn out. I was not exhausted. I was energized and actually saw more breakthroughs in my life. The importance of those things realigned as my priority to know Him came first. He actually prioritized my life and things came into better balance.

I am not perfect at my ability to stay in rest to 100% – but I’m not stressed or feel guilty about that! If I did, that would be all about performance! Ha!  See, I’m learning!

There are things that can still throw me. Performance is that sneaky, snarky thing that seems so intwined in our lives in so many ways. But, I have learned how to move back into rest pretty quickly. That skill gets better all the time. Life is always giving me ways to practice.

Being able to live from a place of rest created a whole new way of life. I have joy. I have refreshing. Pressing On into Him has brought a life of passion, promise and heavenly provision I never expected.  Yes, things still get done and my capacity to do them has expanded. More than anything, and probably the most important, my connection to God’s heart has moved to new depths, because I am able to be still and know His majesty.

In learning to Rest In His heart, I have learned to Press On Him. I am leaning into a renewing and empowering Presence of God that knows no limits.

Rest In to Press On. He is so worth it!
