Identity is a hot topic right now. The problem? Most people try to find value outside of their relationship with God. Without knowing God, it is difficult to understand who we are in Him.

Understanding God’s perception of who we are is everything. He designed us. He created us with the skill and personalities needed for this time in history. He created us for such a time as this. It only makes sense that He would want us to understand who we are and live that to the fullest.  He knows who I am.

One thing The Warrior Commission has taught me is how to discover my identity through my relationship with God. Imagine that! Training in my own identity. I’ve discovered who I am and how He reveals my identity. I get to walk in God’s “WHO I AM!”

This understanding makes a huge difference. In times when things are shifting or unstable around me, I find the stability of who I am in Christ rarely wavers. I have learned to walk in confidence of who I am and face adverse circumstances from a place of strength.

This strength is not manufactured. It does not come from “pulling up bootstraps” and “digging in.” It comes out of knowing God’s heart for me. It comes in knowing His encouragement and trusting in His faithfulness.

Outside of Him, we focus on what we do and strive for perfection. We hope to discover our purpose through our activities. But, God wants us to find identity through relationship with Him.

Graham Cooke sums up how to discover identity in this quote:

“Learn to walk in God’s perception of who you are, because yours is not good enough.”

As I learn to recognize God’s perception of who I am, my perception of myself has changed. I see myself through His eyes and am in a place of peace and rest. As I spend time with Him, I am in the process of walking in God’s perception of who I am. It is a wonderful place to live.
